What "skills" can I acquire by studying at each level?

Intermediate Level

The intermediate level is for those who have some knowledge in Japanese. You will continue to learn new kanji, while learning about 1,300 words with the aim of acquiring the capacity to read a text of about 1,300 characters.

Students' Degree of Understanding (Mastery) after Their Completion of the Intermediate Level

  • You will gain sufficient ability to try the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test Level N3.
  • You will become able to understand some Japanese used in daily life; for example, you will be able to grasp the content of a newspaper from its headline or that of everyday topics.

Level G

Learning Topics and Content

Various Verb Expressions

You will learn intransitive verbs (kawaru, tomaru etc.), transitive verbs (kaeru, tomeru, etc.) and various verb expressions affixed to other words (shirabetemiru, nokoshite shimau etc.).

Interpersonal Relations

You will learn giving/receiving expressions such as "morau, ageru" and "kureru", as well as the honorific expressions for these (itadaku, sashiageru, kudasaru) etc.

Expressions of Feelings

You will learn expressions that represent your feelings such as assumptions ( ~to omou etc.), hope (~ga hoshii etc.)and suppositions (ni naruto, etc.).

Expressions of Judgment

You will learn expressions that represent your own judgment level such as assumptions (~youda, ~ kamo shirenai etc.).

Kanji and Vocabulary to Acquire

Level H

Learning Topics and Content

Expressions of Judgment that Influence Outside Parties

You will learn expressions by which speakers can influence other people such as request (~shite, ~shinaide etc.), permission (~temo ii, ~temo kamawanai etc.) and causative expressions (~saseru, ~saseyoutosuru etc.).

Influence by Outside Parties

You will learn expressions which represent that the speaker is influenced by other parties (~no tame, ~no okagede, ~no seide etc.), such as passive expressions (~rareru etc.).

Possibilities of Actions and Situations

You will learn the possible form of verbs (~hanaseru etc.) and the expressions that represent the degree of possibility (~dekisouda, ~ dekiru kamoshirenai, ~osorega aru etc.).

Expressions of Certainty

You will learn expressions that represent the certainty of things such as hearsay (~rashii, ~souda etc.) and assumptions (~ hazuda, ~hazuga nai etc.).

Level I

Learning Topics and Content

Logic Development

You will learn various expressions that represent logic development (~temo ~tara, ~ karaniwa, ~dokoroka etc.) such as conjunctives (tokoroga, shikashi, soshite etc.).

Explanations of Situations

You will learn expressions that represent the situations of a subject making certain movements (~bekida, ~wakeda, ~ni suginai etc.) such as the commencement, progress and completion of movements (~ iru tokoroda etc.).

Emphasis of Emotions

You will learn various expressions that emphasize your emotions (shikataga nai, ~ni kimatte iru, ~zuniwa irarenai etc.).

Feeling of Respect

You will learn various honorific expressions in Japanese (o~kudasai, ~te itadaku etc.) such as respectful expressions (~rareru, irassharu etc.) and humble expressions (ukagau, haikensuru etc.).
