Class CourseBeing Absent from Class

Instructors often become concerned when a student doesn't come to class without notice.

If you are going to be absent from class, please call your instructor. To see how to tell your instructor in Japanese that you will be absent, please click the Absent from Class Dialogue link.

Class CourseCorrespondence CourseUpdate of Registered Information

If your registered information (address, contact phone number, e-mail address, etc.) has changed, please notify your instructor (or the Japanese Language Team).

To update your information, fill out and send the Registered Information Update Form to the Japanese Language Team. You can also hand in or mail the printed Form to your instructor.

Course Transfer

Class CourseTransfer to the Correspondence Course

Class course students who are no longer able to attend classes can transfer to the correspondence course.

To transfer from the class course to the correspondence course, contact your instructor, or fill out and send the Course Transfer Request Form to the Japanese Language Team. You can also hand in the printed Form to your instructor.

Correspondence CourseTransfer to the Class Course

Students in the correspondence course can transfer to the class course if they can attend classes at least once a month.

To find the location of Kumon centers in your area, please request an information pack or contact the Japanese Language Team.

To transfer from the correspondence course to the class course, contact your instructor, or fill out and send the Course Transfer Request Form to the Japanese Language Team. You can also mail the printed Form to your instructor.

Class CourseCorrespondence CourseTemporary Absence

You can take a temporary absence from your study on a monthly basis for up to three months. To do so, you are required to give notice to your instructor or the Japanese Language Team before the month in which you plan to begin a temporary absence. For example, if you wish to take temporary absence in May, you must give notice to the instructor by the end of April. In addition, you are required to return to your instructor any uncompleted worksheets.

If you feel that you need time off from your study, please remind yourself of the goal you decided to achieve when you first entered Kumon. Ask your instructor about alternatives to taking a leave of absence. There may be a way you can continue your study.

To take a temporary absence, contact your instructor, or fill out and send the Temporary Absence Form to the Japanese Language Team. You can also hand in or mail the printed form to your instructor. Resuming Your Studies

You can resume your studies within three months of your first absence. If you do not resume within three months, you will be regarded as having withdrawn from the class. In that case, to resume your studies, you will be required to apply and enroll again.

To resume your studies in class, visit the Kumon center at or before the beginning of the month and pay the tuition fee. You may also send the Resuming Studies Form to the Japanese Language Team. You can also hand in the printed Form to your instructor.

Correspondence CourseCorrespondence Course

To resume your studies through correspondence, notify your instructor before the month you want to resume and pay the tuition fee. After your payment has been confirmed, your instructor will send you your study materials.

To inform your instructor, you can either: call him/her, send the Resuming Studies Form to the Japanese Language Team, or mail the printed form to your instructor. To see how to tell your instructor in Japanese that you will be resuming your studies, please click the Resume Studies Dialogue link.

If you would like to withdraw from Kumon, you must give notice to your instructor before the month in which you plan to withdraw and return to your instructor any uncompleted worksheets.

If you feel that you want to withdraw, please remind yourself of the goal you decided to achieve when you first entered Kumon. Ask your instructor about alternatives to withdrawing. There may be a way you can continue your study.
